    Another innovation at the taku that Mirko Gaul has introduced after his culinary journey through Asia:

    Our new Matcha tea ceremony is now available at taku. Directly prepared at your table! Matcha (jap.: „pulverised tea) consists of finest powder of crushed green tea which is used during the Japanese tea ceremony.  This sort of tea has an intense green colour and a mellow sweet flavor.

    To produce round about 300 gramm of Matcha powder, the traditional granit mills need an hour. The way of preparatin of Matcha was probably developed in the 6th century in China. As used in the traditional East Asian medicine, the tea leaves are dried as medical plants and are milled afterwards.
    This type of medicine was traditonally produced in Buddhist abbeys and mainly consumed there. Based on this tradition, the first tea ritual of the cen and chan Buddhists emerged. 

    The taste of genuine matcha is called umami which symbolized the fifth sense of sense.
    Get to know your own umami in a traditional tea ceremony happening at your table!

    After the great success of the past years we proudly announce that the Excelsior Hotel Ernst will celebrate EXCELICIOUS 2014 - The Red Carpet Night at the Grand Hotel.

    This year, the Excelsior Hotel Ernst awaits you again with a one-of-a-kind walking dinner guaranteeing action during the whole event!
    Experience an incredible evening and taste a large variety of delicacies at different culinary stations which are spread throughout the entire hotel. Each area of the hotel is accessible for you and offers a great variety of gastronomic highlights embedded in an individual ambience.

    In a relaxed and casual atmosphere we will present you a complete “New Year´s Eve Menu”, while serving champagne, long drinks, soft drinks, cocktails, wine, and Kölsch beer.
    Our kitchen and service team will offer you small dishes which you can individually compose according to your own wishes and preferences.

    Due to our walking dinner concept you can easily move through all areas of the hotel, chat with other party guests and dance to the music of the show band Max & Friends all night long while discovering the best of international gourmet cuisine. Our large and varying dessert buffet will brighten up this eventful night.

    At the kitchen party in our restaurant ´taku´, which is awarded with a Michelin star, you get to know Asian finger food and Sushi at its best during your own journey through the world of Asian delicacies accompanied by the music of our Live-DJ.

    Enjoy a symbiosis of innovative gourmet cuisine, exclusive drinks and music for everyone´s savor: We are especially proud to present you our local special guest cat ballou.     The Excelsior Hotel Ernst cordially invites you to the EXCELSIOR | Sunday | BBQ! Every Sunday an exquisite barbecue in the Mediterranean ambience of the inner courtyards awaits you. Selected barbecue specialties, freshly prepared and presented by our kitchen team, combine the best of summerly inspired cuisine.

    Marinated lamb cutlets, spits of juicy corn poulard and aromatic rib eye steak complement the barbecue menu followed by delicious prawn skewers and spare ribs. Mediterranean salad of pasta, colorful lettuce with different dressings and antipasti guarantee a light and balanced culinary experience.

    Side dishes such as rosemary potatoes, ratatouille and a variation of bread with dips round off this versatile offer. Enjoy refreshing fruit salad as perfect finish of the BBQ Sunday!

    The harmonic ambience and the stylish design of the hotel lobby and wintergarden accompany the Afternoon Tea at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst. Enjoy a pot of tea from our large tea selection. Our charming team of the Piano Bar will be pleased to advice you concerning the selection of your favorite tea.

    In addition we serve a selection of sweet and savoury High Tea Classics, which accomplish the classic English Afternoon Tea: Scones with clotted cream and marmelade, small sandwiches, English muffins and small crumpets.

    The Piano Brunch is a gourmet event. Every Sunday, you travel around the culinary world of the Excelsior Hotel Ernst accompanied by live piano music.
    Together with the Live Sushi Station and our Sushi chef you will discover taku's specialties.

    The Hanse Stube will carve the Sunday roast before your eyes, squeeze lemon juice on your oysters and explain the cheese selection.
    The Excelsior Hotel Ernst patisserie offers delights and the chocolate fountain provides different sorts of chocolate and fresh fruit.

    The Gürzenich Orchestra and our house have designed a programme for your Sunday. First you attend the Sunday matinee of the Gürzenich Orchestra in the Kölner Philharmonie. After the concert you will enjoy the Piano Brunch at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst. Arrangement including first-category concert tickets and the Piano Brunch with soft drinks, coffee specialities, selected white wine, red wine and beer.
