St. Nicholas is visiting the Excelsior Hotel Ernst

St. Nicholas Afternoon Tea

The great Christmas tree in the hotel lobby with hundred lights, fabulous decorated rooms and festive atmosphere welcome you to the St. Nicholas Afternoon Tea at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst. A variety of Christmas delicacies especially for children including hot chocolate and delicious cookies awaits the children at their own Christmas buffet. Of course, St. Nicholas visits the Excelsior Hotel Ernst himself to surprise the children with kind texts and little gifts. To make this afternoon perfect, every child gets a memory photo with St. Nicholas.

We invite parents and grandparents to join their kids and enjoy a classic Afternoon Tea. As the only partner in Germany, the Excelsior Hotel Ernst serves the macarons of Pierre Hermé, the famous French pastry chef, who was awarded to be the world’s best patisserie in 2016. Chose a tea from our great tea variety and be delighted by sweet and savory dishes like scones with clotted cream and jam, sandwiches with smoked salmon, cucumber and ham, English tea cake and small brownies.

Baroque Delectation

Together with the Cologne philharmonic, we present the sequel of “Culinary and concert”: A dinner menu with introduction to the concert and afterwards as the highlight the wonderful Cecilia Bartoli.

Start the night at 6 pm at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst with an elegant drinks reception. Enjoy a delicious three-course menu and get an introduction to the concert. Cecilia Bartoli and “Le Musicien du Prince – Monaco” will present you arias from Georg Friedrich Händel. The fantastic voice of Cecilia Bartoli and her stage presence making her show so wonderful and heart-warming. She has a special sense for musical discoveries, so you can be excited about what we are going to hear.

You get the program and you ticket for first class seats during the dinner so you can get in the right mood for the concert, which starts at 8 pm. The Excelsior Hotel Ernst and the Cologne philharmonic will be delighted to welcome you to this evening. Drinks, menu, introduction and concert are coming together in one arrangement.

Children love it and during the Pre-Christmas season it plays a crucial role: Cookie baking!

It sweetens up the waiting time until Christmas day and especially youngsters have fun kneading the dough with their hands before rolling it out, excitedly looking through the oven window and smelling the wonderful scent of freshly baked cookies.

There is no limit to imagination and creativity whilst colorfully decorating the pastry. At the Excelsior Hotel Ernst little sugar bakers make it big! Traditions and customs during the Christmas seasons are highly preserved at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst. Therefore, the traditional 'goose season' starts again on November 1st, 2016.

For decades, the hotel guests describe the famous Excelsior goose served at the Hanse Stube as the crispiest one in the entire city. Enjoy this culinary highlight combined with classical side dishes like potato dumplings, red cabbage, candied chestnuts, braised apples filled with raisins and the jus of the goose.

Tobias Koch, Executive chef of the Hanse Stube, and his team prepare the Suedoldenburger goose until it becomes crispy and tender at the same time. The maître d'Hôtel, Stamos Harinos, personally carves the goose at the guests’ table in an exclusive and comfortable ambiance.

'Goose Taxi'

The famous „Goose Taxi“ is back! Avoid the stress for the preparation of your goose menu and save time, since the Excelsior Hotel Ernst carries the delicious goose with all important side dishes at your home or at a place of your choice.

For the perfect consumption you just have to put the goose for half an hour at 180 degrees Celsius in the oven. Additionally you receive a glass of goose rilette as well as the recipe. You can decide if you prefer to get the goose carved and ready for serve or on the whole.

Excelsior Stollen at the Christmas market

As the only hotel in Cologne the Excelsior Hotel Ernst has its own stand at the famous Colgone Christmas market. Visit the beautiful Christmas market opposite Cologne Cathedral and try one piece of the Excelsior stollen!

For decades, Cologne's grand hotel is famous for this late medieval pastry. In the hotel’s bakery, the stollen is baked with a selection of the finest ingredients and the right portion of love: Marzipan, yeast dough, candied lemon and orange peel, sultana, almond slivers, butter as well as a special mixture of spices make this stollen so unique. Which spices are used for the stollen remains a secret. The recipe is kept safe for generations in the safe of the hotel.

Every year the owner, Charles Roulet, travels to Cologne personally to taste the stollen and to announce the start of the production. Real stollen fans do not want to miss the delicious pastry, since a self-made stollen means an unforgettable culinary experience. Advent without the Excelsior stollen is no real advent!

The Excelsior Hotel Ernst donates one euro for every sold Christmas stollen to the children hospital “Amsterdamer Straße” in Cologne. Other Christmas sweets as well as gift certificates are also available at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst stand at the Dom Christmas market.
