Festive baking fun for little pastry chefs
At the start of the festive season, the unmistakable aroma of freshly baked Christmas cookies is simply part of the magic. Children especially love cutting out festive shapes and turning them into beautiful little works of art.
This year, we are delighted to invite children to two enchanting baking classes: In the Christmas Cookie Baking Class for children aged 4 to 7, our young bakers are guided by our experienced pastry team as they create delicious Christmas cookies and let their creativity shine. For older children aged 8 to 14, we offer our Gingerbread House Baking Class, where imaginative gingerbread houses are crafted with great joy, skill, and attention to detail – almost too beautiful to eat.

AN EVENING WITH MIRKO GAUL AND TOBIAS WEYERS
Two Michelin-starred chefs, six courses, one special evening: on Saturday, 7th November 2026, restaurant taku welcomes Tobias Weyers from Restaurant Hannappel for an exclusive four-hands dinner with Mirko Gaul. Together, the two Michelin-starred chefs will present a menu that brings together their individual signatures, creative ideas, and the highest culinary quality in a truly special way. Each chef will create three courses, bringing his own personal culinary style to the plate.
Tobias Weyers is no stranger to taku guests: he has previously appeared several times as a guest chef at past taku kitchen parties. Now, he returns for another special evening that combines exceptional enjoyment with refined culinary artistry.

Experience a truly enchanting summer highlight: From 25th June to 16th August 2026, our beloved Afternoon Tea will be served outdoors. Following last year’s great success, the luxury hotel’s courtyard will once again be transformed for seven weeks into a magical Flower Café, where the exquisite patisserie creations of Pavel Tanev blend seamlessly with the artistic floral designs of Ali Pourkhalili.
As dusk falls, the Flower Café transforms into a stylish terrace bar. In this enchanting evening atmosphere, guests can enjoy floral-inspired cocktails and a curated selection of premium beverages from the Charles Bar – the perfect way to unwind in a unique setting.

Almost exactly 70 years ago, the world turned its eyes to Monte Carlo, where American film star Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco said “I do.” Overnight, the tiny principality was transformed into a hotspot of the international jet set, thanks to the Hollywood diva. But then came tragedy – the untimely death of the beloved princess in 1982 – followed by the scandals and escapades of her daughters, Caroline and Stéphanie.
RTL’s royal expert Michael Begasse, who also attended the 2011 wedding of the current Prince Albert and his wife Charlène in Monte Carlo, will share exclusive behind-the-scenes insights during our Royal Teatime, accompanied as always by Robin Meloy Goldsby on the piano.

Royal Afternoon Tea

What a year! In 2026, the royals once again lived up to their reputation and dominated the headlines. From the spectacular trial in Oslo involving the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to the much-celebrated family outings of William and Kate with their children to Australia and the United States, and the many reasons to celebrate in Sweden, there was no shortage of royal news.
Now that King Carl Gustaf has turned 80, will he step down in favor of his daughter, Crown Princess Victoria, and enjoy a royal retirement with his wife Silvia, to whom he has been married for 50 years this summer? RTL royal expert Michael Begasse met our “German queen” and, during the traditional Royal Teatime, will of course also cast a look toward Great Britain.
There, people commemorated and celebrated Queen Elizabeth II on what would have been her 100th birthday, during turbulent times. Head chef Lars Wolf roasts the southern Oldenburg free-range goose until it is tender and juicy, with a wonderfully golden-brown crust. At restaurant Hanse Stube, your goose will be carved for you with precision and skill right at the table. In addition, we serve classic potato dumplings, apple red cabbage, candied chestnuts and raisin braised apples.

As the festive season settles over Cologne, the Excelsior transforms into a place filled with magic, warmth, and shining children's eyes. On the afternoon of 5th December, we invite families to join us for a heartwarming gathering where the excitement for St. Nicholas and Christmas becomes palpable.
While the little ones enjoy lovingly prepared pastries, hot chocolate, and treats from the children's buffet, they can look forward to special surprises – for a mysterious guest has announced his visit: Although St. Nicholas traditionally makes his rounds on 6th December, he simply cannot resist stopping by Cologne’s Grand Hotel a view days early. With small gifts, warm words, and a friendly smile, he will create unforgettable moments. Of course, an opportunity for a memorable photo is not to be missed.

Under the culinary mastery of Michelin-starred chef Mirko Gaul, you will enjoy an unforgettable five-course menu at taku. Each dish is paired with carefully selected wines from the family-run winery Lackner Tinnacher in Gamlitz, Austria. Katharina Tinnacher, owner of the winery, will take you on a fascinating journey of wine discovery, sharing the stories behind the fine vintages while imparting her profound knowledge and passion for winemaking.
The event will take place at a shared table in order to encourage personal exchange and conversation about the presented wines in a pleasant atmosphere.
