THE ART OF SMALL THINGS
Petals on a petit four, the crunch and melt of a praline, the scent of tea and soft piano notes – all come together to create a very special experience. The delicate patisserie of Executive Pastry Chef Pavel Tanev and the Excelsior Afternoon Tea are full of special touches that turn afternoons and early evenings into an experience of their own.

Experience a truly enchanting summer highlight: From 25th June to 16th August 2026, our beloved Afternoon Tea will be served outdoors. Following last year’s great success, the luxury hotel’s courtyard will once again be transformed for seven weeks into a magical Flower Café, where the exquisite patisserie creations of Pavel Tanev blend seamlessly with the artistic floral designs of Ali Pourkhalili.
As dusk falls, the Flower Café transforms into a stylish terrace bar. In this enchanting evening atmosphere, guests can enjoy floral-inspired cocktails and a curated selection of premium beverages from the Charles Bar – the perfect way to unwind in a unique setting.
Reservations for the "Petals & Pastries" Afternoon Tea are now open. Due to limited seating, early booking is recommended. No reservations are required for the evening bar experience.

Join us from 12th January to 1st March 2026, to celebrate half a century of culinary excellence, history, and hospitality!
Since its opening on 12th January 1976, the Hanse Stube has been the culinary heart of the Excelsior Hotel Ernst – a place where tradition, craftsmanship, and elegance meet at the highest level. Known as “Cologne’s fine parlor”, it has long stood for exquisite hospitality, exceptional cuisine, and unforgettable moments.
What began as an elegant restaurant has, over the years, become an institution – a place where Cologne’s society, international guests, and gourmets from around the world feel at home. Many distinguished personalities have dined here – among them Princess Diana, King Charles III, and the legendary Maria Callas. Even the film world has discovered the Hanse Stube’s charm: in 2014, it served as a set for the Hollywood film Collide, starring Anthony Hopkins.
To mark the restaurant’s 50th anniversary, Head Chef Lars Wolf invites you on a culinary journey through time. Inspired by the menus of the past five decades, he has created a special anniversary menu that reinterprets classic dishes from each era – lovingly crafted and prepared with the finest culinary artistry.

Royal Afternoon Tea
WITH NOBILITY EXPERT MICHAEL BEGASSE
Almost exactly 70 years ago, the world turned its eyes to Monte Carlo, where American film star Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco said “I do.” Overnight, the tiny principality was transformed into a hotspot of the international jet set, thanks to the Hollywood diva. But then came tragedy – the untimely death of the beloved princess in 1982 – followed by the scandals and escapades of her daughters, Caroline and Stéphanie.
RTL’s royal expert Michael Begasse, who also attended the 2011 wedding of the current Prince Albert and his wife Charlène in Monte Carlo, will share exclusive behind-the-scenes insights during our Royal Teatime, accompanied as always by Robin Meloy Goldsby on the piano.

During Carnival, Cologne transforms into the happiest city in the Federal Republic. And at Excelsior Hotel Ernst, the fifth season is celebrated with such joy as hardly anywhere else.
Whether on Carnival Sunday during the school and neighborhood parade or on Rose Monday, when the grand Rose Monday parade passes by the hotel once again – the hotel's exclusive grandstand not only promises a comfortable seat but also a spectacular view of the colorful hustle and bustle, along with a wide array of culinary delights. As part of a cherished tradition, the Rose Monday Parade is accompanied by musical entertainment and live commentary by Manfred Erwe.

MELLOW EVENINGS IN THE Charles BAR
A relaxed ambience, mellow music, exquisite drinks... what's not to love? There's something uniquely atmospheric about the bar of a Grand Hotel. It's a place where life stories are written, where romances unfold, where business is sealed and friendships are made for life.
Along with classic drinks and carefully chosen dishes, it's the music that really makes a Grand Hotel bar. On selected Thursdays from 7pm, you can hear artists play soothing music in the Charles Bar of Excelsior Hotel Ernst.
